Week 21

I just realized I scheduled this to post in July not June – oops!  So here it is 2+ weeks late….

We just returned from a fabulous vacation to Hilton Head, SC but that post will come later.  First, baby updates!!  And there’s plenty to update you on.

As I said in last week’s post we had a great visit at the OB including a big ultrasound to look at anatomy, including the genitals.  Well, here’s the announcement we posted on Facebook and Instagram from Hilton Head:

Thankfully we had some friends with us (who bought the little one that adorable bow in the picture) so they acted as photographers and critics, helping us get the perfect shot.

And here’s the sonographic proof:

According to our sonographer 3 dots = girl

And just for fun - here's her most recent profile shot with her hand up to her face

To be completely honest, I was totally surprised and thrilled when she said it.  I had myself convinced we were having a boy, although I can’t give any good reason for the feeling.  My preference was a girl, but I knew I’d be happy with either.  I think C is happier than he expected to be (he was hoping for a boy).  Next question people have is do we have a name for her?  Not yet, although we’ve been working on it and have it narrowed down to a few choices.  Hopefully we’re able to make a decision soon.

At the appointment the Nurse Practitioner asked if I had started feeling movement from the baby yet, which I hadn’t.  After a somewhat surprised face (which she quickly recovered from), she looked through my chart and saw that I have an anterior placenta meaning there’s some extra cushion between baby and my abdominal wall.  She reassured me that it was normal for me not to feel movement for a few more weeks.  Well, as we’re sitting playing an intense game of Trivial Pursuit on Saturday, I felt a “poke” in my lower abdomen.  I didn’t think too much of it until I felt it again a few minutes later in the exact same spot.  At that moment, I was pretty sure I was feeling baby for the first time! However, I didn’t really feel it again over the next couple days.  That is until yesterday when we were flying home.  I felt several similar pokes in my belly while midair and I knew for sure that was baby moving around.  Apparently our little one was enjoying the flight – guess she likes traveling as much as mom and dad do!  Today I’ve been feeling movement like crazy and it is the best thing I’ve ever felt.

Things have been getting more and more real with each doctor’s appointment and ultrasound, but feeling her moving all around inside my belly was the kicker – get it….?  There is a small human being growing inside me and it is the coolest thing in the world.  I’m so excited to meet our daughter (but not for another 17+ weeks)!
