From Ohio with Love
Last week I had the chance to visit my dear friend Emily, her husband, dog and sweet baby girl, Grace. The last time I saw Em was in Park City when she told me about her pregnancy. Its still a little hard to believe she’s a mom now.
I was only in town for 3 days and with my 27 week pregnant self and a 1 month old in tow we didn’t have big plans, except a visit to the Zoo. Our first day, Matt Em and Grace picked me up from the airport. We then met Em’s mom and Jen for lunch and had fun catching up and loving on Gracie. The rest of the day was spent just visiting and catching up. Em and Matt even left me home alone with Gracie for a few minutes and I took the chance to snap a few photos of the sleeping angel. We capped off the day with a yummy dinner followed by Jeni’s Ice Cream (its a really good thing I don’t live anywhere near a Jeni’s!)
Day 2 started with breakfast and more cuddles with Gracie. She had a big Dr’s appointment so I tagged along for the ride then we headed off to the zoo. It was a beautifully sunny day, but with a nice breeze it wasn’t hot. We hit up the polar bears, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, kangaroos, monkeys and elephants, just to name a few. Gracie hung out in the stroller or Baby Bjorn and did great! By the end of our visit, my feet were swollen, back was sore and I was ready to relax. Well, before we could pull out of the parking lot, Grace decided to vomit her entire bottle back onto Em. It was pretty hilarious, despite the huge mess. After cleaning up and some rest we headed off for another delicious dinner and great conversation. We traded memories of college (going back over 10 years of friendship) and reminisced about the “good ol’ days.” It was fun to talk about where we’ve been and where we are now and made me appreciate all we’d been through and what a great friend Em is. I hope Gracie and our little girl make some fun memories together.
Friday was my 3rd and last day to visit. We had a low key day consisting of running errands, relaxing and more chit chat. One of the errands included attempting to get a hand print from Grace, but she was having none of it. After lots of crying and paint everywhere, we settled for a footprint. I think the ladies at the shop were more stressed about it than we were while Em and I got a good laugh out of the whole thing. Before I knew it, my visit was coming to a close and they dropped me off at the airport. Despite a flight delay and a really tight layover (about 10 minutes to make it between gates), I made it home safely. Traveling by air is much less comfortable than pre-pregnancy but I survived.
It was a great visit and I miss them all already. I can’t wait for Grace to meet our baby girl and become great friends. And playing with, holding and loving on that sweet baby made me that much more excited to meet our little one.
